About the firm:

Our client is launching an Alternative Asset Management business as a strategic expansion of their top 5 equity research brand to move into the alternative investment space. The platform offers a menu of curated, institutional-grade investment opportunities across venture capital, private equity, private secondaries, and a broad range of investment funds, including venture, private equity, hedge, and real estate funds.

The Managing Director is a senior leadership role responsible for driving investment strategy, deal origination, execution, and portfolio management across both private equity, growth equity, and venture capital investments. A successful candidate will leverage their extensive experience and established network to generate superior returns. Along with the Head of the Alternative Asset Management business, they will help to build and lead a high-performing investment team and represent the firm to Limited Partners (LPs) and key stakeholders.

  • Conduct market research, attend industry events, and build relationships with entrepreneurs, intermediaries, and co-investors.
  • Lead due diligence processes, including financial modeling, market analysis, competitive landscape analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Structure and negotiate deals from term sheets to closing, ensuring alignment with the platform's hybrid strategy.
  • Oversee post-investment activities, such as strategic guidance and exit planning.
  • Support capital raising efforts by preparing pitch materials, engaging LPs, and demonstrating track record of returns.
  • Mentor junior investment professionals, foster a collaborative team culture, and recruit top talent to build the platform's capabilities.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and internal policies in all investment activities.

Desired Background:

  • 10+ years in private equity, with at least 5 years in a senior role (e.g., Principal or MD level).
  • Demonstrated exposure to venture capital, growth equity, or crossover investments.
  • Proven track record of successful deals, exits, and value creation.
  • Demonstrated success in deal origination and execution, having closed multiple transactions in relevant sectors and investment stages.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling (e.g., all three financial statements, LBO, DCF, cap tables), valuation skills, and deal structuring.
  • Familiarity with legal aspects of PE/VC transactions.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication abilities.
  • Strong network in investment communities.
  • Analytical rigor with entrepreneurial mindset.
  • High integrity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rigorous environment.
